Well, I know that you have all been biting your nails in anticipation of this moment, so I thought I should alert you to the Pension Bill starting it’s route to final legislation last week.
As many of you will be aware, I have previously said that the paper ‘Making automatic enrolment work - a review for the Department for Work and Pensions’ was likely to be adopted largely unchanged. My rationale for this statement is that time is against the legislators at this point, and the DWP seem to support my assumptions on this.
The DWP’s website comments: ‘The Government has concluded that the review team’s recommendations represent a sensible and balanced package of proposals’.
I am not so convinced on this point, but what everyone needs now is clarity, so I welcome the start of the final legislation process.
If you want to keep your eye on the progress of the bill, please follow the attached link: http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2010-11/pensionshl.html
For a more general story on the bill, here is a link to the Professional Pensions article last week: http://www.professionalpensions.com/professional-pensions/news/1936903/government-legislates-auto-enrolment-changes
Will keep you posted.
Best regards
Steve
