This is one of the budget topics I previously flagged as being of importance to Employee Benefits. In simple terms it’s a question of how the Government would take forward the proposal in The Sickness Absence Review (SAR) that certain health-related employee benefits may benefit from some level of tax relief.
And it does appear that there may be some progress here - although detail is more than a little sketchy (despite my spending some time hunting around the net for more information). All I can really do is link you to one of the two articles I have so far seen, and I will look for more detail as and when it’s available.
Having searched through the online budget documents, the first mention of the fiscal impact of such a measure is in the 2014/15 Tax Year, so whatever the finer detail this is still over the horizon.
There is also mention of a forthcoming consultation in the above article, which I hope is true as its important that the reliefs should be targeted at the areas where employers feel it will make the most difference to absence levels.
Will keep you posted as detail becomes known.
Best regards
Steve
