Some of the followers of this blog will recall that I recently speculated on the possible loss of Childcare Vouchers from the employee benefits sphere. For those that missed this story, it can be picked up via this link http://goo.gl/iaBNE
There has been a lot of noise today from the Government re Childcare provision, and how to keep the costs of such care down to help working families. Despite this, there has not been any statement indicating what direct financial support will also be offered.
Having listened to the debate on the lunchtime news, it sounds like there may be something of a disagreement between the Coalition parties around this point, and it really is not at all clear what comes next.
The general rumour seems to indicate that a decision on this is some weeks away yet. And being something of a cynic, that strikes me as another can kicked down the road (joining the tax breaks on health-care issue covered here last week) to the 2013 Budget statement.
So the next budget could actually be quite significant for the world of Employee Benefits. Unless the can get’s kicked further still…
Will keep you posted.
Best regards
Steve
