I am pleased to announce the first of our 2013 events. Yet again we are fielding some of the very best speakers on the seminar circuit, able to guide you through key employment topics in an expert, and light-hearted, manner. This event includes Employment Law, Employee Benefits, and The Economic & Employment outlook for 2013. The full agenda is detailed later in this post.
And we have another superb venue in The National Army Museum, just a short walk from Sloane Square tube station & bus routes. The Museum hosts an excellent collection detailing the history of the British army, and includes a huge, highly detailed, 19th century model of The Battle of Waterloo, and “War Horse: Fact & Fictionâ€, a display based on the massively successful book, play, and film.
Seminar details:
- Date: Wednesday 6th February 2013
- Timings: 10:00 to 12:30
- Location: National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, London, SW3 4HT
- Suitable for: Senior Human Resources and Finance Professionals
- CPD: The seminar will qualify for 2 hours CPD
- Cost: FREE! (includes refreshments and access to venue exhibitions)
Given our speakers, agenda, and superb venue, not to mention the hugely positive feedback from all our recent events, demand is likely to be extremely high. Places will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served, basis and early reservation is therfore strongly recommended. Acceptance details are shown at the end of this post.
The full agenda:
09:15 Registration, coffee and networking
10:00 Welcome
10:05 Employment Outlook: “A snake or ladder year?â€
2012 turned out to be a better than expected year for jobs, despite the double-dip recession. Will 2013 see more of the same, something even better, or a return to the doldrums? This session will scan the job horizon and examine which types of jobs will be expanding, which contracting, and what this will mean for HR and Finance professionals in the audience.
John is the extremely well known former Chief Economist of the CIPD, and has regularly appeared in the spoken and written media. Once described by The Sun newspaper as “the most miserable man in Britainâ€, he is more accurately known for his, often humorous, writing and speaking style. An excellent addition to our panel of speakers.
Speaker: John Philpott, Director, The Jobs Economist
10:50 Break/ Refreshments/ Networking
11.15 Employment Law: “Employment Law on paradeâ€
To begin the 2013 campaign Tim plans to march us through some of the highlights of 2012, undertake a reconnoitre of TUPE, parade the correct approach to disciplinary warnings, and see if we can defuse the unexploded bomb that is equal pay. He will also inspect immigration and employment, and any other issues which catch his eye, not forgetting redundancy and selection pools of one.
Sit back and enjoy another master-class in Employment Law from one of the most consistently popular presenters on the seminar circuit.
Speaker: Tim Randles, Associate, Penningtons
11:45 Employee Benefits: “They frighten me..â€
The Duke of Wellington once said of his army: “I don’t know what they do to the enemy, but by God they frighten meâ€. And the same is true of much well meaning legislation and research in the UK. Steve will look at a mixed bag of subjects, all of which are potentially significant for both employers, and employee benefits. Topics covered will include the employer’s duty of care, the sickness absence review, research into co-morbidity, and what impact these items will have on benefit packages. An update on Pensions Auto-Enrolment will also be included.
Prepare for another unusual, and engaging, assault on the ramparts of employee benefits from this well known seminar speaker.
Speaker: Steve Herbert, Head of Benefits Strategy, Jelf Employee Benefits
