Instantly insured, that’s good right?

In a world where everything is instant from our coffee to our loans, is it wrong to expect to buy your insurance in the same way? After all the reason why we choose instant is not because it is necessarily better, as numerous coffee drinkers may testify, but because it saves time. And in this day and age isn’t that the primary concern?

We are all aware of sites where, with just a few minutes of typing you can receive a range of quotes for your business. Your insurance is sorted for another twelve months and you can get back to the day job right? Well yes, but like in the coffee example above what benefits have you missed out on in the pursuit of instant and do they really matter to your business?

Are you really covered?

The truth is… no two insurances are exactly the same. You may find that one or more of your alternative quotes throw up a large premium saving on your existing policy. Before accepting terms make sure you compare them with your existing policy and make sure the figures are like-for-like. You wouldn’t want to switch policies only to find that the basis of the cover was substantially worse than you had previously as this may leave you exposed if a claim occurs.

The problem is there are so many different types of cover you can get insurance for it can be overwhelming at times. Many of these covers will not be relevant to your business and this is where it might be a good idea to seek the advice of a professional, a good broker can make you aware of the important areas that need insuring.

By reviewing your policies you may also find that there are gaps in your existing policy that cost a minimal amount to insure but could save you thousands of pounds in the result of a claim occurring. It might be worth identifying whether there is a specialist broker within your industry as this could not only mean substantial savings, but also increased cover.

Whilst an instant approach has its attractions spending a little more time on buying cover can offer long-term business benefits. Whether you choose to seek advice face-to-face or online it is worth dedicating some time to make sure you are getting the right cover for your business. After all the worst time to discover your insurance is inadequate is when you need to make a claim.
