Many followers of this blog will have seen today’s media coverage of a suggested delay (of up to a year) by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) in their response to the charges cap consultation.
This may indeed be the case, but I can confirm (having just come off the phone to the DWP Press Office) that no such official announcement has yet been made.
The official line is as follows: “This is an important and complex consultation which requires our proper consideration to ensure we get it right and we will confirm a publication date in due course.”
Any delay to the timetable could well be helpful to employers, but of course only if the eventual outcome is not applied retrospectively. And it’s my guess that we won’t know that for some time to come.
Or to put in another way, compliance with Auto-Enrolment remains a moving target, and we all remain in limbo for the moment.
Will keep you posted.
Best regards
Steve
