Yet another Childcare Vouchers post…

I seem to be in a bit of a run of posts on the topic of Childcare Vouchers at the moment, and it might appear that I am slightly obsessive about the subject.

But appearances can be deceptive. My principle concern here is that I really don’t think that this topic is getting enough air-play in the HR and Benefits press considering the significant changes that are now on the horizon, and the apparent attitude of some employer’s towards this important benefit.

For some more background on the topic, I would refer you to my last two posts on this blog.

Today’s point is a simple one, and I hope adds weight to the arguments I have made in previous posts.

According to an article I read last week*, the cost of childcare has risen by a staggering 37% since 2008. This period, of course, coincides with the economic downturn, and it’s likely that many user of childcare during this period have had little, or no, pay increases to offset some of this increased cost.

It therefore follows that working families who benefit from Childcare Vouchers are probably ever more reliant on this benefit to help make ends meet. Which is why I would urge employers not to pull the plug on their Childcare Voucher offering in advance of the proposed changes in 2015.

‘Nuff said I think.

Best regards

Steve
