Government Sickness Absence Review

No one would disagree with Dame Carol Black’s observation that “unduly prolonged sickness absence from work is wasteful & damaging”. Therefore, the fundamental recommendations to encourage retention in the work-place will be welcome in reducing costs of absence & improving overall workplace wellbeing. And, as the detail of the review starts to develop, employers will need help with medical & vocational rehabilitation support interventions for all employees from the early stages of absence. This support is commonly available as an integral component of a well structured Group Income Protection scheme where a suitable & cost-effective plan would go a long way towards supporting the Employers obligations from this review.
