More than just insurance
There has been much employee research recently with great scrutiny of both Government and employer. Latest employee research suggests that most believe the Government and/or their employer will look after them in the event of long term illness, preventing work.
This is a subject that requires great attention, most notably for the simple fact that in reality state benefits alone are not sufficient. To reinforce this message, significance should also be placed on Welfare Reform changes, especially when you consider they will have a detrimental impact on obtaining such state benefits.
Who does this leave the onus on?
Who else, but employers, who will be encouraged to keep employees in work. With this in mind options need exploring. One such option would be to have a comprehensive Group Income Protection policy, that will mitigate absenteeism by including, ‘free’ access to a range of early intervention & rehabilitation support which can pro-actively manage employees through the vital initial stages of absence.
It will be interesting to see how this develops and whether there will be a shift towards implementing comprehensive policies that tackle such issues at the preliminary stages.
