Auto-enrolment dates pushed back

An email, along the lines of the above title, was unexpectedly in my inbox on my return from holiday.

But don’t get too excited, auto-enrolment dates remain largely unaltered from the original schedule for most employers.

What does appear to have changed is that employers with fewer than 10 employees, but who are part of a larger PAYE reference (which is defined as having more than 239 employees), will have significantly longer to comply with the auto-enrolment dates than was previously envisaged.

To put this into context, if you are neither:

A small employer with less than 10 staff (and part of a larger group)

OR

A larger employer who has a small subsidiary of less than 10 staff

…this point is probably academic.

As I understand it, this change is not yet legislation, but it seems likely to be the case when the wider Pensions Bill becomes law. For the moment, the revised dates including the proposed changes above can be viewed here:

https://www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk/pensions-reform/staging-date-timeline.aspx#s4566

Jelf Employee Benefits will update our staging-date technical bulletin to reflect these proposed changes later this month.

Best regards

Steve
