Regular observers of Employee Benefits will have noted an increasing trend of intervention by the Europeon Court of Justice (ECJ) on UK employee benefit provision.
You may be aware that there have been rumblings from the ECJ re gender discrimination and insurance products (which arguably could impact on Group Life, Group Income Protection, Group Medical and even Group Pensions), and a judgement has been passed down today on this. Difficult to see how this can be anything but bad news really (it’s just a question of how bad, and what exemptions/ get out of gaol cards may be available), but will hold off saying anything further until the dust settles. Certainly something that we will be covering further on the blog and also in our forthcoming seminars.
