Happy New Year (and pension reform of course!)

Firstly, a happy new year to you all.

I know that I promised to get onto other benefits other than pensions (and I will, promise!), but just a quick opening post on pensions to get 2011 up and running.

You may be aware that The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are currently undertaking a consultation around default fund selection for certified pension schemes being used as an alternative to NEST. If you want more background to certification and NEST, please see any of my posts on this subject in December, but the most lucid on this point is probably https://www.jelfgroup.com/blog/2010/12/alternatives-to-nest/

The consultation is due to close on the 7th March 2011, so if you are interested in contributing, there is still time. The link to the document is: https://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/dc-default-option-consult.pdf

More importantly though, this does mean that we are likely to have a key directive on default fund choices in the fairly near future. This is key to many employer’s pension planning post Auto-enrolment/ NEST, so I will update the blog on this subject as soon as the detail is in.

Best regards

Steve
