INSURERS RAISE £14,000 FOR CHARITY

A Manchester-based insurance company has raised over £14,000 for a lung cancer charity.

Jelf Manson partnered with The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in 2011 after its regional managing director, Mike Latham, lost his father to lung cancer.

Since January 2011 they have organised numerous fundraising events and activities and are now presenting the Liverpool-based charity with a cheque for £14,000.

Mike Latham, regional managing director of Jelf Manson, said: “After losing my father to lung cancer in 2009I wanted to take on a challenge to help raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in his memory.

“Last year, I cycled from London to Paris along with the Zurich team, which started my fundraising. Jelf Manson then decided to partner with the charity and in the past 12 months, the staff have taken part in sponsored head shaves, a fancy dress treasure hunt and group director Jon Manson cycled from London to Brussels.

“Personally I’m delighted we’ve been able to raise £14,000 for such a worthy charity and want to thank all the staff for their involvement.”

Liz Legge, corporate fundraising manager for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in the UK with more than 35,000 people dying every year, so it is vital we continue to raise money to help us in the fight to defeat this truly awful disease.

“All the money raised by Mike, Jon and the team goes directly to helping us fund research programmes, supporting patients with lung cancer and running awareness and prevention campaigns.

“I would personally like to say a big thank you to everyone at Jelf Manson for supporting us.”

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer, the biggest cancer killer in the world. It funds research into the early diagnosis of the disease, provides support to patients and their families, as well as helping people to quit smoking and providing anti-smoking education for children and young people.

The charity also lobbies government to take action against smoking, and was instrumental in campaigning for outlawing smoking in all enclosed public places across Britain.
