11:20 Sickness Absence: “Tackling Workplace Sickness Absence”

We are delighted to welcome Dame Carol Black to the Jelf Employment Seminars. Dame Carol is widely acknowledged to be one of the key experts on workplace sickness absence, and indeed has been an advisor to recent governments on this important topic. Dame Carol will look at recent initiatives such as Fit for Work and Fit Notes, and what lies ahead following the recently published “Improving Lives” consultation from the DWP. An important session for all delegates. Speaker: Professor Dame Carol Black, Expert Adviser on Health and Work to NHS England and Public Health England

11:45 Employment Law: “The end of the age of the dinosaur!”

Matt Jenkin will provide a useful and informative employment law update including a look at the recent cases on worker status and whether, in light of those cases, traditional concepts of employee and worker are prehistoric and at risk of extinction in light of the rise of the gig economy. Matt will also look at other topics including how employers have coped with the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and how employers are gearing up to deal with gender pay gap reporting.
