After more than half a decade of talking about UK Auto-Enrolment (AE) duties, I can confirm that the first of the duties start from today for ALL employers.
Employers can no longer screen applicants in an effort to establish which applicants are more or less likely to join a pension scheme. Likewise employers must not seek to promote the non-joining of a pension scheme.
Whilst these are only relatively cosmetic changes at this point, they do apply to ALL UK employers from the 1st July (ok - that was yesterday but I assumed most HR departments were not active on a Sunday!). They apply even if your company will not reach its specified staging dates for some years to come.
So, the legislation is finally starting to take hold, and hopefully this will act as a wake-up call to employers who have yet to plan for the full implementation of AE.
