Many employers could be forgiven for feeling rather dazed and confused at present.

Despite record levels of employment – and historically low interest rates – the UK continues to face slowing economic indicators. Add the uncertainties of Brexit, an ever-changing political landscape, and key changes to Employment Law and there is much for employers to be aware of and plan for.  But where to start on such an exercise?

To help answer this question we have assembled another panel of expert educators for the latest in our series of the Jelf Employment Seminars.  Our speakers and topics for this event include:

  • An update on all the key Employment Law changes from Sarah Tahamtani
  • Susan Andrews on the major Pensions issues of importance to employers
  • A review of the complex & changing world of Employee Benefits with Steve Herbert
  • Susannah Couper with a look at the hot-topic of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace

And of course we have another superb venue for our delegates to enjoy in Headingley Stadium, home to both top class cricket and rugby.  Attendees are also able to join an optional stadium tour after the event concludes.

Headingly Stadium is accessible via public transport, and for those using their own vehicles free car parking is available.

09:00    Registration, coffee and networking

09:40    Welcome

09:45     Employee Benefits:  “Hit for six!”

Despite low interest rates and record levels of employment the UK is still witnessing a number of slowing economic indicators. And of course the uncertainties of Brexit also lurk just over the horizon.  It follows that it is increasingly important for employers to get the maximum return from their Employee Benefits budget and offering.  This session will therefore look at a mixed bag of topics including Cyber Security, the working poor, Tax Free Childcare and the phasing-out of Salary Sacrifice benefits (which began in April this year).  An informative, and hopefully fun, session for all delegates.  Speaker:  Steve Herbert, Head of Benefits Strategy, Jelf Employee Benefits

10:15     Emotional Intelligence (EI):  “What is EI (and why is it important)?”

Most employers are familiar with the concept of Emotional Intelligence, but few have yet to fully embrace the concept. Susannah will provide an overview of this key employment subject and identify how and why this topic should feature on the radar of all good employers.  Case studies will be included.  Speaker:  Susannah Couper, Co-Founder, Sales Mindset Matters

10:35    Delegate Voting

10:45     Break/ Refreshments/ Networking

11:05    Pensions:  “Ongoing duties and actions”

The roll-out of Auto-Enrolment pension schemes is now nearly complete and has resulted in many millions of new savers. This is welcome news for the nation, yet it is only the first step in a much more complex retirement savings picture.  Susan will look at key issues of importance to employers and their workforce.  Topics covered will include ongoing Auto-Enrolment compliance, the impact of Pension Freedoms on default fund selections, and how to educate employees around pension and retirement decisions.  Speaker:  Susan Andrews, Workplace Savings Consultant, Jelf Employee Benefits

11:25    Employment Law:  “Employment Law Update”

2017 has been a busy year in the world of Employment Law, with major developments in the areas of “gig” working, Tribunal fees and (of course) Brexit. Local employment law expert Sarah Tahamtani will provide an important and useful update on the key changes that will impact all UK employers.  An important and necessary session for all delegates.  Speaker:  Sarah Tahamtani, Partner, Clarion Solicitors

11:55     Closing comments

12:00     Free Prize Draw (a chance to win a Fortnum & Mason hamper!)

12:05     Event concludes/ Optional Stadium Tour for delegates

Due to the number of topics to be covered, the level of detail may vary.  Speakers will focus on the subject areas that are topical and most likely to be relevant at the time of the seminar
