Why not banish those winter blues by attending yet another fun and informative Jelf Employment Seminar?  These events have become a fixture of the HR and Finance calendar, and are now seen as a “must attend” by many of our delegates.

For our first event of 2016 we have again put together a select society of informative and entertaining speakers to guide our delegates through the key employment issues of the year.  Our brains-trust for this event will be marshalled by popular Chair Peter Matthews and includes:

  • The learned Tim Randles will provide his usual amusing and informative insights into the complex world of Employment Law.
  • Jelf’s Steve Herbert will provide his topical, pragmatic, and original views on the many important changes to the world of Employee Benefits in 2016 and beyond.
  • Star business commentator from both TV and Radio – Justin Urquhart Stewart – will round off our event with an entertaining and fast-paced look at the Economic Horoscope for UK employers.

And once again we have another unique and interesting venue for our delegates to enjoy.  This time we are at the Royal Society in central London.  The Society has been the home of the greatest scientific minds since 1660, including famous names from history such as Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin.  More recent Fellows include both Tim Berners-Lee and Stephen Hawking.  Delegates will be able to view the displays and collections of the Society during the networking breaks.  The venue is centrally located and just a few minutes’ walk from public transport links.

Another year of significant change lies ahead for employee benefits in 2016.  Steve will provide his (un)usual views on the big issues in this space, and seek to provide a scientific approach to how delegates can best plan for such movement.  Topics covered will be driven by the legislative agenda, and are sure to include progress on the important consultation on Pension Tax Reliefs, event limits in group risk schemes, employer-supported volunteering, and childcare costs for employees.  Highlights from the 2015/16 Jelf Employee Benefits survey may also be included.  A practical and (hopefully) fun look at the world of employee benefits provision.

10:20     Employment Law:  The Big Society at the Royal Society”

With 2016 lining up to be another bumper year for legislation and cases, Tim will be looking at what to expect including the issues around implementing National Living Wage and some unintended consequences; redundancy and collective consultation following the collapse of the City Link prosecution, and TUPE and the absent worker.  Failed disciplinary cases or other things of interest which catch his eye in the meantime will also be included.

The year of the Red Fire Monkey:  High Energy forcing changes!  This year global economic growth and life-altering technologies are indicated; Innovation and invention will be rewarded; Individual initiative empowers ingenious problem solving.  So a lot for employers to look forward to.  Yet is this the whole story?

To answer this question we are delighted to welcome the expert economic and market commentator from TV and radio, Justin Urquhart Stewart.  This session will look at topics that will shape the UK and global business agenda over the next 12 months.  This is sure to be a highly useful and fun session – delivered with Justin’s trademark energy and enthusiasm – which will leave all delegates better informed on key economic and market trends.  An important and necessary session for our attendees.
